Texas A&M football fans have seen enough and want Haynes King to grab a clipboard now.

After a less-than-stellar first half vs. Sam Houston State, Texas A&M football fans have seen enough: They want Haynes King to be benched yesterday.

King won the starting quarterback job over LSU transfer Max Johnson, as well as former top recruit Conner Weigman. Although he had been the Aggies’ starting quarterback at the start of last year, King broke his leg and Zach Calzada took over for him. Despite beating Alabama at home, Calzada decided to transfer to dysfunctional Auburn, where he would not beat out TJ Finley for that job…

Aggies fans on TexAgs are not loving how King is a certified pick machine who stares down wide receivers like it is his job. Do they have a point or should we all just chill out for one hot minute?

Texas A&M football fans want Haynes King to be benched after only one quarter

Through the first half of their season opener vs. Sam Houston State, King completed 10-of-19 passes for 231 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also led the team in rushing with 17 yards on four carries, as the Bearkats defense kept Devon Achane in check (eight carries for only eight yards). Either way, No. 6 team in the country held a 17-0 lead over an FCS opponent.

Although Sam Houston State is one of the better FCS teams out there, quarterbacked by former Georgia Tech starter Jordan Yates, Texas A&M is widely seen as the third-best team in the SEC behind only Alabama and Georgia. The Aggies have recruited like Alabama and Georgia of late, but they have been pretty much an 8-4 team under Fisher, outside of their strong 2020 COVID season.

Fisher may be more comfortable with King as his quarterback, but he lacks the dynamism Johnson displayed previously at LSU, as well as the upside of Weigman. A lot can change between now and then, but do you really think King is the man who will beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa and Georgia in Atlanta to make the College Football Playoff for the first time in Texas A&M football history? No…

Look for Johnson and Weigman to continue to push King to play better, or possibly overtake him.
