Ed Orgeron brought LSU football another national championship but was ousted just a couple of years after. He was clearly not too hurt by that decision.

Prior to the 2022 season, the LSU football program ultimately started a new era when they hired Brian Kelly to replace Ed Orgeron after six seasons. Coach O was a legend in Baton Rouge, to be sure, most notably with leading the Tigers to a perfect season and winning the 2019 National Championship behind a historically good roster.

But once the dust settle on that, it was clear that Orgeron was no longer the guy to maximize what LSU was capable of doing. And if you’re wondering if he was upset about his departure from the program, he cleared that up this week.

Speaking at the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Tuesday, Coach O was talking about his dismissal and said that, when he was in a meeting and was told his buyout would be $17.1 million, he only had a couple more questions: When did they need him out by and what door did they want him to go out.

Coach O had a legendary response to LSU football buyout

Even if his time with the Tigers ended a bit unceremoniously and with nowhere near the same level of success he enjoyed in 2019, this is the reason Coach O is a legend among college football fans.

The man absolutely exudes a refreshing charisma that isn’t too self-serious about coaching a game, even at high SEC stakes. No, if you’re going to offer this man $17 million to not coach, he’s not going to complain about that one bit.

As for now, it doesn’t seem like Orgeron has any coaching prospects on the near horizon. However, it still wouldn’t be a surprise to see him back around the landscape sooner rather than later.
