Upsets weren’t plentiful to start the season, but our college football upset picks for Week 2 suggest a storm could be brewing.

Until Florida knocked off Utah in The Swamp (one that we picked) on the first full Saturday of the 2022 college football season, we were trending toward exactly zero ranked upsets in Week 1. Of course, other upsets happened, even on Labor Day with Florida State edging out LSU in a wild game as the underdogs. But if this sport has taught us anything over the years, it’s to never trust the calm before the storm.

That storm won’t be touching down in some places for college football Week 2, though. As much hype as the Alabama-Texas matchup is getting, the Crimson Tide aren’t losing, even in Austin. Meanwhile, Kentucky-Florida has been tight recently, but the suspensions for the Wildcats leave me thinking the Gators have too strong of an advantage to be on upset alert.

So which teams does that leave us that are in danger of going down this week? These are our five Week 2 college football upset picks and the teams we’re putting on alert.

College football upset picks for Week 2: 5 teams on upset alert

5. Arkansas Razorbacks

Opponent: South Carolina | Time: Saturday, Sept. 10, Noon ET | Spread: ARK -8.5

Sam Pittman’s Hogs opened up the year with a huge win over Cincinnati in Fayetteville that really set up Arkansas to enjoy another step forward as a program. But the hardest part of that next step is taking it and the Razorbacks have a tricky spot in Week 2, even playing at home.

Admittedly, Spencer Rattler’s debut for South Carolina was hardly what the Gamecocks fans were hoping for but he got the win, which is all that matters. Now the talented but inconsistent quarterback comes on the road for his first SEC game but the matchup could be interesting.

Arkansas saw multiple defensive backs leave the game hurt against Cincinnati in Week 1 and their status is a bit up in the air. That’s when the Bearcats came back and made it a much closer game than it was before. South Carolina has the tools to play another close game and potentially make this one tricky for the Hogs.
