By transferring to UCF, John Rhys Plumlee can help the Knights put together one final great season before they make the jump up to the Power Five when they join the Big 12 in July.

People might remember John Rhys Plumlee from his days at Ole Miss, but he now plays for UCF.

In theory, Plumlee is the perfect quarterback to run essentially the hurry-up-and-run offense for Gus Malzahn in Orlando. Mobility is a necessity in running his rudimentary offense, but Plumlee is a two-sport athlete well-equipped to do so. In addition to running around out there on the football field, he can play a little baseball as well. Here’s to Plumlee dominating the AAC in year one at UCF.

This is everything you need to know about Plumlee ahead of his first year playing for the Knights.

John Rhys Plumlee age

Plumlee was born on Jan. 2, 2001 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Although it seems like he had been at Ole Miss forever, Plumlee enters this college football season at the ripe old age of 21 years old. He will not turn 22 years old until bowl season has largely wrapped up. Since 2020 doesn’t have to count towards his eligibility, this season doesn’t have to be one-and-done in Orlando.

Where did John Rhys Plumlee go to high school?

Plumlee played his high school football at Oak Grove High School, just outside of Hattiesburg where he was a two-sport star. He became the Warriors’ starting quarterback as a sophomore. Plumlee finished his high school playing career with 5,430 passing yards, 2,314 rushing yards and 82 combined touchdowns over those three seasons, allowing him to become a four-star prospect.

John Rhys Plumlee height and weight

UCFKnights.com has Plumlee listed at 6-feet and 200 pounds. He has been listed as tall as 6-foot-1 and weighing as little as 185 pounds. While he possesses great foot speed and athleticism, Plumlee is widely seen as more of a runner than a thrower at this point of his career, a big reason why he lost the starting job at Ole Miss to Matt Corral once Lane Kiffin took over the team.

John Rhys Plumlee transfer history

Plumlee initially committed to Georgia out of high school. He flipped on National Signing Day in 2019 to Ole Miss, not just to stay home, but to also play baseball for the Rebels. Plumlee enrolled at Ole Miss on June 27, 2019. After playing three seasons for the football program, Plumlee hit the transfer portal for the first time on Jan. 4, 2022. A mere five days later, Plumlee transferred to UCF.

John Rhys Plumlee recruiting profile

According to the 247Sports Composite, Plumlee was a four-star recruit coming out. He was seen as the No. 13 dual-threat quarterback in his class, the No. 15 player from Mississippi and the No. 350 overall prospect in the 2019 recruiting cycle. Plumlee had 15 official offers, taking official visits to Auburn, Florida State and Mississippi State before flipping from Georgia to Ole Miss.

Overall, UCF has so much to play for this season. The Knights may be making the leap up to the Power Five in July once they join the Big 12, but they have every reason to believe they can be in the mix to win the Group of Five one last time. Not since Nick Marshall has Malzahn had a quarterback as well-equipped to run his offense, so this could be a special year for the Knights.

A home win over Louisville on Friday could be the catalyst that helps gets UCF over the top this season.
