Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees provided Quinn Ewers a path to return to Texas’ game against Alabama, but that wouldn’t have been a good thing.

Brees dealt with shoulder and collarbone issues for much of his career. So, when Quinn Ewers went down with what looked to be a similar injury of his own against Alabama, Brees stepped in with some friendly advice on social media.

The future Hall-of-Fame quarterback provided Ewers a path to return to the field. The only problem? Ewers is still a teenager, and by no means should be risking his health this early in his career, let alone against a team like Bama!

While Brees meant well with his post, it speaks to a greater problem of football players performing through injuries, and just making them worse in the end. If Ewers were to come back on the field, it would not end well, even if he “took every snap from the shotgun,” as Brees suggests.

Brees played through injuries at the peak of his professional play, while Ewers is still in college and trying to make a name for himself — there is a major difference.

And one could argue that Brees playing through pain was a mistake, as well. It impacted his life outside of football, though that’s his choice.

As for Ewers — it’s not a decision that should be put in his hands, which is why Texas never flirted with the decision to put him back in the game. Brees should sit this one out.
