Bears flooded field causes bizarre penalty for towel use
By Rylie Smith
The Chicago Bears are having a season opener to remember. The game is consisting of several bizarre situations, one right after the other.
The Chicago Bears are certainly winning for the most unique season opener. They’re hosting the San Francisco 49ers with a field that’s flooded and had to be squeegeed before the game. They have an extremely unevenly painted sideline. Right when things can’t seem to get weirder, they got a penalty for “illegal use of towel.”
The Bears were just trying to be good hosts for the 49ers by cleaning up their field, but it unfortunately only went against them. They’re certainly having a rough day.
The Chicago Bears are struggling on many levels in their home opener
Chicago is having a tough time amidst so many weird conditions on their field. They’re on track to lose against the 49ers, which makes the pre-existing difficulties an even harder pill to swallow.
The conditions don’t seem to be an issue for San Francisco, however. Despite playing in the swampy conditions, they’ve managed to hold a lead above the Bears through the entire game so far (nearly through the third quarter).
The extra three points could’ve helped them at least tie the 49ers, but they lost the opportunity because of a towel. The game is certainly getting progressively weirder, but hopefully it’ll at least be enjoyable for the Bears to look back and laugh on.
If it doesn’t provide a victory or a few laughs, there’s not much hope left in their first game of the 2022 season.
