Welp, Cowboys fans. Here you are, falling back on the same old fallback option as the Patriots and Panthers over the last couple of years. It didn’t exactly work for them, but maybe Cam Newton can work for Dallas?

He’d likely be better than Rush or Gilbert though…

Newton is 33 years old and has a combination of experience and previous NFL success that’s hard to beat among other NFL free agent QBs.

Beggars can’t be choosers.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Screw it. There simply aren’t any “good” options out there for the Cowboys. The free agent pickings are as slim as you’d expect while practice squads don’t exactly have a wealth of options.

So maybe Jerry Jones should just go for broke and propose a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for their luxury backup quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo is a significantly better quarterback than anyone else out there. The Cowboys wouldn’t have to just tread water. They could actually go into games with hopes of a victory.

Is this even remotely plausible? Probably not. It would cost way more than anyone should give to bring Jimmy G over from San Francisco, but if anyone was going to make that kind of splash move, it might be Jones.
