Chicago Bears safety Eddie Jackson shines in “user lurk” interception as he picks off San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance in embarrassing loss.

Week 1 wasn’t the first time Trey Lance saw an NFL field, but it is his first outing as the official starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2022 season.

And Lance couldn’t have picked a worse weekend to play at Soldier Field, which has seen incessant downpours resulting in flood warnings in the city of Chicago.

The battle between Lance and Bears quarterback Justin Fields was an ugly one for the majority of the game: Fields finished with a 85.7 QBR, while Lance finished with a 50.3 QBR, per ESPN. Yet in the fourth quarter, Fields pulled ahead by passing for two touchdowns, giving the Bears a 12-point lead that ultimately gave them a 19-10 victory.

That second touchdown from Fields was virtually plucked from Lance’s hands as Bears safety Eddie Jackson goaded him into throwing a pick.

Jackson embodied the “user lurk” popularized by Madden terminology by tricking Lance into throwing a pass to Jauan Jennings, only to swoop in and snatch it out of the air. Jackson ran to the 21-yard line in 49ers territory, and Bears running back Khalil Hebert essentially did the rest until the Bears scored their third touchdown of the day.

According to Chicago Sports Radio 670 The Score’s David Haugh, Jackson’s interception was his first since the 2019 season.

To Haugh’s point, Jackson interception is already being heralded as the harbinger of a “comeback szn” for the 28-year-old safety.

Back on Aug. 24, Jackson told the press that his team was “going to shock a lot of people“, and he ended up shocking them in the best possible way. Although Fields didn’t have a strong showing for the majority of the game, Fields did pull together for two touchdowns at the end, and Herbert was integral in following Jackson’s interception with a scoring drive.

The Bears chose to celebrate their gritty victory in the downpour by sliding into the endzone, and Jackson was sure to join his teammates in Soldier Field’s latest water feature.

Meanwhile, 49ers fans may want to reconsider their incessant calls for Lance over Jimmy Garoppolo as they head home to the Bay with their first loss of the season.
