2022 NFL power rankings, Week 2: Rams and Bengals not so super
Quarterback Russell Wilson was dealt to Denver and Geno Smith was Pete Carroll’s starter when the Seahawks hosted the Broncos on Monday night. Smith hit on 23 of his 28 throws for 195 yards and a pair of scores.
Seattle’s defense allowed 433 total yards but came up with some big takeaways in the red zone. Carroll’s club was shut out in the second half but held on for the victory. And the Seahawks were the only NFC West team to win in Week 1.
There’s been a change in this rivalry as of late as the Bengals had taken three straight meetings from the Steelers entering Sunday’s clash at Cincinnati. It proved to be a rough day for quarterback Joe Burrow, who was sacked seven times and committed all five of the team’s turnovers.
Cincinnati looked like they were on their way to a last-second win but a missed PAT and a missed field goal in overtime left the door open for the visiting Steelers.
Since returning to the NFL as an expansion team in 1999, the Browns owned a 1-21-1 record in season openers entering Sunday’s trip to Carolina. Kevin Stefanski’s team appeared on its way to the club’s first Week 1 win since 2004 thanks to a 20-7 fourth-quarter lead.
That would disappear as the Browns trailed 24-23 with 1:16 to play. But Jacoby Brissett put rookie kicker Cade York in position to kick a 59-yards field goal with eight seconds remaining.
