Saints latest signing could signal bad news with Alvin Kamara

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly signing a veteran running back to their practice squad, which could mean bad news with Alvin Kamara.

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly signing veteran running back Latavius Murray to their practice squad, shortly after Alvin Kamara exited the season opener with a rib injury.

There hasn’t been an injury update, but signing another running back so close to the injury leaves room to believe that there may be bad news coming regarding it.

Kamara has been with the Saints throughout his entire six-season career, and he’s been highly reliable. He likely won’t be replaced long-term, but investing in a potential short-term replacement wouldn’t be worth it unless absolutely necessary.

Alvin Kamara injury could be concerning Saints if Latavius Murray signing is any indication

Over Kamara’s career, he’s completed 4,277 rushing yards, 47 rushing touchdowns and just five fumbles. Murray would be a decent temporary replacement. Over his eight-season career, he’s completed 5,492 rushing yards, 49 rushing touchdowns and just eight fumbles.

Murray has also played two seasons with the Saints (2019 and 2020), so he’s no stranger to the team. He didn’t have any extraordinarily good or bad seasons in New Orleans, so it’s unsurprising that they gave him another chance this season.

According to John Hendrix of FanNation, “The corresponding move sees New Orleans terminating the contract of wide receiver Dai’Jean Dixon.”

An injury update on Kamara is expected to be released on Wednesday. According to John Sigler of Saints Wire, coach Dennis Allen and Kamara have both reported that he “felt fine.” Hopefully the injury won’t be serious enough to end his season.
