Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin face off for the third time. Here is a preview of the fight and a prediction.

One of the biggest boxing bouts of the year takes place this weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 17, Canelo Alvarez faces off against Gennadity Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nev. for the WBO, WBA, IBF, WBC, and The Ring super middleweight championships.

This is also one of the most anticipated rematches, as this will be the third time that the two boxing stars will face off across the ring from one another.

Alvarez is looking to bounce back after losing his WBA (Super) light heavyweight championship to Dimitry Bivol by unanimous decision back on May 7. Meanwhile, Golovkin defeated Ryota Murata by ninth-round technical knockout back on Apr. 9 to retain his IBF and IBO middleweight championships and won the WBA (Super) middleweight title.

The first time these two stars met was back in 2017, and it ended in controversial fashion. Judge Adalaide Byrd scored the first bout 118-110 in favor of Alvarez, while Dave Moretti scored it 115-113 to Golovkin. Don Trella scored the bout 114-114 to officially bring it to a draw split decision. The interesting thing, per Compubox, was that Golovkin landed more punches (218) than Alvarez (169). In fact, Golovkin outlanded Alvarez in 10 out of the 12 rounds.

One year later, the two met in a rematch, which judges Steve Weisfeld and Moretti scored 115-113 in favor of Alvarez, with Glenn Feldman scoring it a 114-114 draw.

Now four years following their last fight, they will meet in the ring once again.

Who will win Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennadiy Golovkin III?

According to WynnBet, Alvarez is listed as the favorite (-550) over Golovkin, who has +400 odds.

Considering how close the previous two fights have gone, it is likely that this fight will go the distance. Taking this in mind, this may be the time where Golovkin finally conquers Alvarez, the fighter who handed him the only loss of his career. Not to mention that he landed more total punches than Alvarez in both of their previous meetings.
