Georgia didn’t even need a full quarter to send South Carolina fans into a meltdown

The South Carolina Gamecocks shouldn’t have expected a great deal of success against Georgia, but the Bulldogs sent fans into an early spiral.

Any South Carolina Gamecocks fan who thought that the team had the chance to shock the world on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium as they welcomed the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs to Columbia was probably fooling themselves to begin with. The best they could’ve hoped for, though, would be to have hope for as long as possible.

Kirby Smart’s team made sure that would not, in fact, be the case.

Much like they did against Oregon in the season opener, Georgia came out with a strong defensive effort and an effortless movement on offense as they drove down the field for an easy score to take a 7-0 lead then picking off Spencer Rattler immediately after South Carolina’s first big play of the contest.

It didn’t even take the full 15 minutes of the first quarter for Gamecocks fans to enter a full meltdown on the message boards.

Georgia football sends South Carolina fans into meltdown in the first quarter

Again, I’m not quite sure what the fans in Columbia were expecting from this matchup, but absolute dominance was always going to be on the menu for this game when it comes to the Bulldogs and a South Carolina team struggling to find its way early on in the season.

There is an air of disappointment around Shane Beamer’s team already, though. Rattler’s arrival gave the program the most talented quarterback they’ve had in quite some time but he has failed to deliver on his gifts in his brief time with the Gamecocks.

The hope, of course, is that more reps and experience will help the signal-caller and team find their footing and be more competitive moving forward. As for now, though, they’ll have to suffer through being severely overmatched against a team like Georgia.
