On FOX Sports Big Noon Kickoff show, Nebraska football fans made it very clear they want Urban Meyer as their next head coach.

Nebraska football needs a new coach, that much is clear after they fired Scott Frost this week. Frost, formerly a Husker golden boy who was meant to return the program to its once-dominant state, failed to do so.

So, where do the Huskers go from here?

Long gone are the days of Eric Crouch and Tom Osborne. This program isn’t nationally relevant, and they know that. Desperately grabbing at straws to return to their glory days, Nebraska needs a big name — but who could fill such a void?

Husker fans think Urban Meyer is the man for the job.

Nebraska football: Could Cornhuskers hire Urban Meyer?

Meyer’s NFL experiment went horribly wrong, as it has with so many famous college coaches before him. Yet, Meyer’s attempt was different in so many miraculous, yet horrific ways. He reportedly belittled a player until he cried, and even kicked Josh Lambo in the leg to encourage him to make field goals.

The former Ohio State and Florida coach was eventually fired amid evidence he did not board a team flight back from Cincinnati, and instead was photographed dancing with a young woman in a Columbus bar who was not his wife.

Needless to say, it was a disaster.

But…that was professional football. Could Meyer return to the college ranks? Any program to bring Meyer in would be forfeiting their soul, and millions of dollars in the process. Meyer does not do things by the book, hence why he couldn’t deal with the minimal constraints the NFL placed upon him.

In college, Meyer gets to run his program how he wishes. Is it all legal? Nah, no way. Could it lead to a few more wins here and there? Sure.

But the far more likely reality is that Meyer flames out in Lincoln, just like he has everywhere else. And you can bet he’ll leave the program worse than he found it.
