Texas football team gets terrific injury update on Quinn Ewers

Texas football fans have to love the latest injury update when it comes to Quinn Ewers.

After exiting Week 2’s narrow home loss to Alabama, emerging Texas football star quarterback Quinn Ewers could be returning to action sooner than expected.

Ewers injured his clavicle on a late hit vs. the Crimson Tide on Sept. 10. Initially, he was ruled out for the next four-to-six weeks with an SC sprain. That would have kept him out until at least Red River (Oct. 8), possibly through the Iowa State game (Oct. 15) and into the Oklahoma State date up in Stillwater (Oct. 22). Fortunately, Ewers was seen out on the field pre-game without a brace on.

Texas improved to 2-1 on the year with a solid win over UTSA. The Longhorns will play at Texas Tech next week before hosting West Virginia on Oct. 1.

Texas football: Quinn Ewers may be returning to team sooner than expected

Although Texas Tech will be a tough road game for the Longhorns, they should still come out of Lubbock with a victory. As far as the Mountaineers are concerned, they might be the worst team in the Big 12 this season, especially with the Kansas Jayhawks becoming an absolute wagon under Lance Leipold’s leadership. Ultimately, Texas needs to be 4-1 heading into Red River vs. Oklahoma.

Although they can still win the Big 12 despite losing in Dallas to their biggest rival, the Longhorns will officially be crossed off as a College Football Playoff contender with a second loss on the year. Again, this was largely expected this season because they drew Alabama and Oklahoma in the first half of their schedule. However, they need to see if Ewers is the guy for them going forward.

Hudson Card may be able to keep the seat warm, but if Ewers does not have a strong second half for the Longhorns, that might force Arch Manning into action prematurely as a true freshman next fall. The Mannings do not want to do that, as they would prefer for him to redshirt. While Texas does not have to win the Big 12 this season, they need to be around an 8-4 team to stay on track.

If Ewers can return in time for Red River, the Texas has a shot at winning the Big 12 this season.
