Cowboys have surprisingly good injury news on Dak Prescott

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is sidelined with a hand fracture after the season-opener, but he may be back much sooner than anticipated.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is sidelined with a hand fracture following the Week 1 season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His initial anticipated return timeline was six to eight weeks, but now he could reportedly be back much earlier, potentially even by Week 3, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.
Jones told Kristi Scales of 105.3 The Fan, “He’s got a chance, maybe the third or fourth game. We’ll see what happens.”
Luckily, Prescott isn’t on the injured reserve, so there’s no set amount of time that he has to be out. With several big games coming up, it’s important that he fully recovers so he can play again at full health.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott’s return would be extremely helpful over the next few games
In Week 3, the Cowboys will face the New York Giants, one of their division rivals. The Giants are the only team in the NFC East to win the first two games of the season, so they’ll be a difficult team to overtake.
The Giants, however, scraped wins against some fairly easy teams to beat, so this matchup against the Cowboys will be more telling of their ability. The Cowboys won Week 2 without Prescott against the Cincinnati Bengals, who have a ton of talent, so they do have a shot. Having Prescott would certainly make a win easier, but Cooper Rush stepped up well and has proven he can effectively play against tough teams.
In Week 4, Dallas will face another division rival, the Washington Commanders. The Commanders have a solid defense and a very talented quarterback, so it’d be ideal to have Prescott back then.
The Cowboys will then face the defending Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams, in Week 5. By then, Prescott will more than likely be back. With Prescott in, it’ll be an extremely difficult game to win, so without him, it’s unlikely the Cowboys would take home the victory.
Prescott has an impact in Dallas that not many others can produce, and his comeback will certainly be exciting.
