The Red Sox clubhouse has been a bit divided by the release of veteran Kevin Plawecki but the catcher reportedly has a new suitor.

Few things that the Boston Red Sox have done this season have made fans happy and some of that has bled into the clubhouse. But perhaps the most divisive decision for everyone was one of their most recent as they designated veteran catcher Kevin Plawecki for assignment before eventually releasing him.

This is a move that has caused a riff among Red Sox veterans as he was not only a fan-favorite but an emotional leader and glue guy. After all, it was Plawecki who helped install “Dancing on My Own” as the unofficial postseason anthem for Boston a season ago.

But while the drama carries on in Boston, Plawecki seems as if he’s closing in on finding a new home.

Rangers rumors: Texas interested in former Red Sox fan favorite Kevin Plawecki

According to FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray, the Texas Rangers have “serious interest” in bringing in Plawecki.

Texas has been eliminated from postseason contention at this point as the club has fallen well short of expectations with a 63-83 record entering Monday. However, with the offseason additions of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, it’s clear that the Rangers are interested in being aggressive for the future.

Plawecki could be of assistance in that journey. Though he struggled mightily at the plate this season with the Red Sox — a reason as to why he ended up in free agency — he is a galvanizing presence who also was a steady bat for the club last season. That could be valuable in a platoon for Texas.
