The Auburn Tigers were able to hold on against the Missouri Tigers, but it shouldn’t quell concerns about the man in charge, Bryan Harsin.

Harsin is not the long-term option at Auburn, even if a close win against Missouri saves his job for a week.

It took overtime — and a ridiculous fumble by Missouri — for the Tigers to hold on. A report emerged this week that Harsin was one loss against Mizzou away from losing his job altogether. This is AFTER Harsin’s job was in jeopardy this offseason for…sketchy reasons altogether.

With that in mind, it feels like a matter of if, not when, Harsin will be replaced. When Auburn finally pulls the trigger, these will be the five coaching candidates who get the call first.

5. Hugh Freeze

You think Hugh Freeze wouldn’t take a one-way ticket back to the SEC? You’re sorely mistaken.

Freeze coached at Ole Miss, but was nabbed in a pay-for-play scandal that suddenly looks quite silly given the NIL era we’re entering. If anything, Freeze would fit right in, especially if he had a larger budget.

Look. Liberty gave Freeze his second chance, and he’ll be forever grateful. The second chance should lead to another opportunity at a big-time program. Whether it’s next offseason, or a few years later, Freeze will receive his chance.

When Harsin was under fire this past offseason due to the previously-mentioned scandal, Auburn reportedly contacted Freeze to gauge his interest in coaching in the SEC again. The return was unclear.

Yet, one thing that is clear is the Tigers would be better off with Freeze at the helm, so why not ask again?
