When was the last time Tennessee beat Florida?

Of the many great things that SEC football brings to the sport, it’s hard to argue that the longstanding and heated rivalries between these programs isn’t chief among them. And one of the best that the SEC East has had to offer over the years is the Tennessee Volunteers and Florida Gators.

To put it bluntly, these two fan bases have a ton of animosity for one another and the two historically successful football programs are no strangers to trading barbs on and off the field as well.

But the unfortunate reality is that the Vols and Gators have not been much of a rivalry lately as Florida has thoroughly dominated when these two teams have met of late, even when they haven’t necessarily been the better team. And that begs the question of the last time that Tennessee was able to beat Florida.

When was the last time Tennessee beat Florida?

Tennessee football hasn’t scored a win over the hated Gators since 2016 as they enter their 2022 season matchup. That game, played at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, TN, was a matchup of Top 20 teams and a great contest that resulted in a 38-28 victory for the Vols.

But while that is the last time that UT got the win in this series, even that has been a rare occurrence over almost the past two decades. Specifically, Florida has won 16 of the last 17 meetings between the two programs dating back to 2005.

Overall, the recent run of the Gators has tipped the scales in their favor in this rivalry as Florida holds a 31-20 overall record against the Volunteers in their meetings since the first all the way back in 1916.

Prior to this recent tear by Florida, though, the Vols were up 19-14 in the series. With the resurgence under Josh Heupel, the orange-clad faithful in Knoxville are certainly hoping that they can work to even the score over the next few seasons.
