Texas A&M escapes another loss with the luckiest missed FG in history

Texas A&M was about to blow a nine-point lead and lose to Arkansas until a Razorbacks field goal attempt gave the Aggies one of the luckiest breaks ever.

The big question about the Texas A&M Aggies as they traveled to JerryWorld in Arlington to face the rival Arkansas Razorbacks was simple: Could Max Johnson and the offense under Jimbo Fisher move the ball against a pretty poor and heavily banged-up defense?

At times, they were able to, but not enough down the stretch. So after building up a 23-14 lead, KJ Jefferson and the Hogs began to claw their way back. First, a Jefferson rushing score pushed it to a 23-21 game. Then, Arkansas had the chance to pull out the win — or at least go ahead — with about 1:30 left in the game.

Then, A&M got one of the luckiest breaks you’ll ever see.

The Razorbacks lined up for the field goal that would’ve put them ahead by a point and asked them to come up with just one more stop against an overall anemic offense. And the kick had plenty of distance and looked like it was going to sail just over the upright for a made attempt — until that kick clipped the top of the upright and bounced away for a missed field goal.

It’s certainly lucky when a kick hits the upright to begin with for the team on defense. But for a kick to just clip the top of the upright is a whole other level of luck.

But they don’t put pictures on the scoreboard and that missed field goal allowed the Aggies to run out the rest of the clock and get the win. Having said that, it would be sick to start the pictures-on-scoreboards with the screenshot of the football making contact here on the upright.
