Everything Ryan Day had to say after Ohio State smashed Rutgers
By Scott Rogust
Here is everything Ohio State head coach Ryan Day had to say after the team’s 49-10 win over Rutgers, including what happened on the now infamous fake punt.
The Ohio State Buckeyes remain undefeated after Week 5. They took on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, who despite being 3-1 on the season, had never picked up a win in head-to-head meetings. Sure enough, that was the case once again.
Ohio State cruised to a 49-10 victory over Rutgers. The Buckeyes offense was led by Miyan Williams, who ran for five touchdowns. There was also some drama, as there was a fake punt run by Ohio State punter Jesse Mirco while up 49-10, which led to a late hit by Rutgers wide receiver Aron Cruickshank out of bounds that nearly led to a brawl.
Here is what Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day had to say about the game, including the fake punt.
Ryan Day postgame press conference
First, let’s talk about the fake punt. After the game, video surfacedf of Day appearing to apologize to Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano, after the two were shown getting into a heated confrontation after the play in question. The video comes courtesy of Lantern Sports.
During his postgame press conference, Day said that the decision to run the fake punt did not come from him. Rather, it was Mirco who chose to go for it, and it led to the late hit by Cruickshank and fracas.
Day also said that everything between himself and Schiano was good after the game.
Day also spoke about the decision to not play star running back TreVeyon Henderson, who was a game-time decision heading into Week 5. The head coach said that the plan was for Henderson to play on Saturday, but that changed after warmups.
Despite Henderson’s absence, Ohio State’s running game flourished, as evidenced by Williams’ 189-yard and five-touchdown performance on 21 carries.
Ohio State will look to continue its undefeated season next week with a win over the Michigan State Spartans.
