College football rankings: AP Top 25, Week 6: Alabama back on top over Georgia

The AP Top 25 Poll has Alabama two votes ahead of Georgia for the No. 1 spot in these latest college football rankings.

A strong fourth quarter over Arkansas propelled Alabama past Georgia for the No. 1 spot in the latest batch of significant college football rankings: The AP Top 25 Poll.

Even though the Crimson Tide were briefly on upset alert in Fayetteville, the great ground game from Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs boosted Alabama past the Hogs. Although Stetson Bennett IV and the Dawgs overcame a disastrous first half in CoMo to beat Mizzou, Georgia did not look sharp at all on Saturday night. Thus, the AP voters decided to knock them down a peg.

While there was some change at the top, so many teams ranked in teens lost on Saturday as well.

Here is what the latest AP Top 25 Poll looks like heading into the Week 6 slate of games.

4. Michigan Wolverines
5. Clemson Tigers
6. USC Trojans
7. Oklahoma State Cowboys
8. Tennessee Volunteers
9. Ole Miss Rebels
10. Penn State Nittany Lions
11. Utah Utes
12. Oregon Ducks
13. Kentucky Wildcats
14. North Carolina State Wolfpack
15. Wake Forest Demon Deacons
16. BYU Cougars
17. TCU Horned Frogs
18. UCLA Bruins
19. Kansas Jayhawks
20. Kansas State Wildcats
21. Washington Huskies
22. Syracuse Orange
23. Mississippi State Bulldogs
24. Cincinnati Bearcats
25. LSU Tigers

Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Clemson are the top five. USC, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Penn State round out the top 10. No. 11 through No. 15 are Utah, Oregon, Kentucky, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. No. 16 through No. 20 are BYU, TCU, UCLA, Kansas and Kansas State. Washington, Syracuse, Mississippi State, Cincinnati and LSU round out the top 25.

Although Georgia dropped one spot, it is not the end of the world in Athens. The two big winners in the top 10, outside of Alabama getting back on top obviously, are Oklahoma State and Ole Miss. The Cowboys moved up two spots from No. 9 to No. 7, while the Rebels climbed up from No. 14 to No. 9 after their thrilling home game over Kentucky, who dropped six spots all the way to No. 13.

Ultimately, most conferences are in a pretty good spot right now with multiple teams inside of the top 15. While much will be made about the new entrants into the top 25 such as TCU, UCLA and especially Kansas, the top 10 looks incredibly strong right now. Although a few teams inside of the top 10 will have to play each other, all 10 are very much alive to make the College Football Playoff.

While these rankings will be our guiding light this week, expect for it to look way different Week 7.
