Kirk Cousins

The Vikings are paying Kirk Cousins an average yearly salary of $35 million dollars. Keep that in mind every time you watch the quarterback take the field and get outplayed by someone like Andy Dalton.

Dalton stepped in for Jameis Winston as the Saints starting quarterback in England and very nearly handed Cousins an embarrassing loss overseas.

Cousins threw a touchdown in the first quarter then struggled to get his team in the endzone throughout. The only thing stopping overtime was a game-tying kick attempt that doinked off the post and the crossbar before falling short.

The Vikings aspire to Super Bowl contention. Cousins is holding them back from that.

Of course, Minnesota doesn’t have a young prospect waiting in the wings like Atlanta. They have no realistic incentive to bench Cousins because his replacement would be Nick Mullins.

Even though it won’t happen doesn’t mean it shouldn’t. The longer Minnesota puts their faith in Cousins, the longer it’ll be before they actually contend.
