American football fans raved over seeing the “Ted Lasso” crew celebrate and sing “Sweet Caroline” at the Vikings-Saints game in London.

The crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was treated to a fantastic football game on Sunday as the Minnesota Vikings took on the New Orleans Saints.

It was only fitting that these two teams, which have developed a bitter postseason rivalry over the years, brought the game down to a nail-biting, 61-yard field goal that should have been. Instead, Wil Lutz kicked a gut-wrenching double-doink, and so the pain of Saints fans at the hands of the Vikings continues.

But for those who weren’t personally affected by the outcome of the game, it was, objectively speaking, an exciting football match for the ages.

Which is why it’s no surprise that UK football’s finest on the silver screen rallied in the stands to show their support of American football. A crew of AFC Richmond “players” featured in the Apple TV+ hit show “Ted Lasso” were spotted in the Tottenham crowd as they sang and cheered at the NFL London game.

Their fearless leader, Ted Lasso himself (played by Jason Sudeikis) was in attendance, showing support of another American sports league by wearing a WNBA hoodie.

Ted Lasso crew and American football get plenty of love at NFL London game

Of course, the admiration from across the pond wasn’t flowing one way. Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen touched down in London wearing Lasso-inspired cleats, which the official Ted Lasso account thanked him for on Twitter.

For those wondering what the Ted Lasso crew was singing, Gridiron’s Michael McQuaid clarifies that it’s none other than Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”

The Richmond crew also snapped a photo together courtesy of NFL UK, with Sudekis holding an American football emblazoned with the Union Jack.

Cristo Fernandez, who plays Dani Rojas on the hit show, was also in attendance and was wearing a Detroit Lions jacket. Speaking to NFL Network before his first-ever NFL game, Fernandez explained wearing his Lions jacket by saying “Barry Sanders was a legend”, a comment that only makes him more endearing to American football fans.

Fernandez also said that he will definitely be attending the NFL Mexico game between the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers game in January. His exact words were, “we’ll be there,” which means that perhaps the entire Ted Lasso crew will gather to make another NFL appearance.

Suffice to say that, as The Athletic said, this was “the crossover we all needed.” Even though some Saints fans wished it was “the good omen the Saints need in London“, it is a positive sign for a beloved cast that has garnered 40 Emmy nominations and won 11 Emmy awards in two incredible seasons.
