With Paul Chryst and Karl Dorrell out, the seats are heating up for five college football coaches.

While Karl Dorrell was a dead man walking at Colorado, nobody saw the Paul Chryst canning in Wisconsin coming after Week 5 of the 2022 college football season.

Dorrell and Chryst now join a growing list of Power Five head coaches fired well before Thanksgiving Weekend. Scott Frost is out at Nebraska, Geoff Collins is out at Georgia Tech and Herm Edwards is out at Arizona State. We are talking about five big college football brands without a long-term head coach. I have a feeling more dominoes are going to fall here very soon.

Iowa will have to get rid of Kirk Ferentz soon because nepotism is the worst

Unbelievably, we are getting to that point with Kirk Ferentz at Iowa. He has been at Iowa City since the latter days of the Bill Clinton administration. No Power Five head coach has been in place longer than the future College Football Hall of Famer. However, Ferentz continually choosing to employ his son Brian as a totally incompetent offensive coordinator will probably be his undoing.

Iowa may have a great defense and outstanding special teams, but they cannot score points. Even more troubling, the Big Ten West has plenty of teams who can knock the Hawkeyes off. Although they won the division a year ago, a reluctance to admit anything is wrong offensively has the nice people of Iowa wanting to run its hall-of-fame coach out of town. It never had to end up like this…

Although Ferentz is not getting fired in-season, he may be forced into retirement by Thanksgiving.
