Greg Maddux completely savaged the Mets after Braves clinched NL East

Greg Maddux was one of the best pitchers of his generation. The former Atlanta Braves ace threw some shade at the Mets after his old team clinched the NL East.

Maddux won 355 games as a member of the Braves, Cubs, Dodgers and Padres. He’s known primarily for his time in Atlanta and Chicago, however, and his accomplishments with the Braves of the 1990’s.

While he was far from a strikeout pitcher, even in his heyday, Maddux had a unique ability to pitch to contact and have that strategy work in his favor. He was also arguably the best fielding pitcher of all-time, winning 18 gold gloves throughout his stories career.

After the Braves won the NL East on Tuesday night, Maddux had some choice words for his former rival in the New York Mets.

Maddux will always be a fan favorite in Atlanta. Unlike former Braves pitcher Tom Glavine, who left for the rival Mets in free agency, Maddux was always loyal to the ATL. Though he would eventually play for other teams, he was never a Met, which surely means something in Braves country.

With the victory and NL East title in hand, the Braves will be the No. 2 seed in the National League playoffs, and will get an automatic bye into the NLDS. Meanwhile, the Cardinals, Mets, Padres and Phillies will all play in the Wild Card series’.

The added playoff teams make seeding all the more important. The Braves essentially receive a first-round bye, and allow players with injuries to rest over the weekend before the start of their playoff experience.

The Mets, meanwhile have to go through the Padres and Dodgers before they would even get a chance at revenge against the Braves. Atlanta merely must face the winner of St. Louis and Philadelphia for a spot in the NLCS.
