Marcus Stroman shared his thoughts on who should win AL MVP this year, and let’s just say New York Yankees outfielder Matt Carpenter did not agree.

On Tuesday, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run of the season, which now passes Roger Maris for the American League record. Now that Maris’ 61-year record has been broken, the conversation now moves on to if Judge should win the AL MVP award over Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman took to Twitter to say that while Judge has had a historic season, “how do you not give MVP to Ohtani?” Stroman then says what Ohtani’s “doing has never been done before and may never be done again.” But, Stroman does say that both Judge and Ohtani are deserving of the award.

Judge’s teammate and Yankees outfielder Matt Carpenter saw this and sent a reply. He didn’t need to use words to show that he disagreed with it.

Judge has had a fantastic season with the Yankees, his final one before his contract expires. He turned down a lucrative offer from the team before the season, he helped the Yankees stay in first place in the AL East for the majority of the season, and he broke Maris’ record. Not just that, but Judge was in contention for the Triple Crown heading into the final stretch of the season, but will fall just short of that, with Luis Arraez of the Minnesota Twins taking the top batting average in the AL.

With Ohtani, he is doing something that a player has not done in quite some time — hit and pitch dually at a high level. Through 157 games as a batter, Ohtani slashed .273/.356/.519 while recording 34 home runs, 95 RBI, and 160 hits. In 28 starts as a pitcher, Ohtani posted a 2.33 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, a 15-9 record, 219 strikeouts and 44 walks over 166.0 innings.

The regular season ended, and the postseason officially began. However, up until the announcement of the end-of-year awards, the debate on who should win AL MVP between Judge vs. Ohtani will be a tense one.
