Upsets came back with a vengeance in college football last week and, while the slate is light, there are several opportunities for that to happen again.

Between the almost-upset of Georgia by Missouri and teams like Oklahoma, Minnesota, Washington and Pitt falling in matchups they were favored in, upsets were clearly on the college football menu a week ago. And while it’s a light overall slate for Week 6, that could very well be the case again on Saturday with some tricky ranked matchups.

Before we get into our college football upset picks, though, we have to address the ones that didn’t make the cut.

We’re giving Georgia the benefit of the doubt and expect a get-right game against reeling Auburn. Oklahoma State could be in a tough one against Texas Tech but the Cowboys have looked good enough to believe they’ll prevail. Meanwhile, short-handed Kentucky, NC State, BYU and Mississippi State could possibly see trouble as well, but I’m still not ready to call those.

That leaves us with five other ranked teams that should be seeing the red flags waving on Saturday as they make our college football upset picks for Week 6.

College football upset picks for Week 6: 5 teams on upset alert

5. Clemson Tigers

Opponent: at Boston College | Time: Saturday, Oct. 8, 7:30 p.m. ET | Spread: CLEM -20.5

I know what you’re thinking. Clemson has passed every test to this point in the season and is coming off of a statement win against NC State a week ago in which D.J. Uiagalelei and the offense look like they’re finding their way. So why would they be on upset alert in Week 6 against a Boston College team that has struggled?

Admittedly, the Tigers have the advantages where you want them in this matchup. The Eagles’ offensive line has been a disaster this year and Clemson boasts arguably the best defensive front in the country. Even if DJU sleepwalks, the defense should give Dabo Swinney’s team enough cushion to win.

This is all about how much of a trap game this is. After beating NC State, this is a trip to Chestnut Hill sandwiched between that contest and then matchups at Florida State, vs. No. 22 Syracuse and then a trip to Notre Dame. Boston College is easy to overlook in that stretch and they have enough talent to scare Clemson if the Tigers don’t come to play.
