The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 to advance to the NLDS, and ended the careers of Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina.
The St. Louis Cardinals were three outs away from taking Game 1 of their Wild Card Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Yet the bullpen surrendered six runs in the ninth inning, leading to a 6-3 loss. The Cardinals needed to win Game 2. If not, their season would end, and Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina would officially retire.
In Game 2, the Phillies shut out the Cardinals 2-0 to secure the sweep and advance to the NLDS to face the Atlanta Braves.

St. Louis left nine runners on base throughout the game. Two of those runners left on base happened to be Corey Dickerson and Molina with two outs on the board. But in the final at-bat, Tommy Edman popped out to end a comeback attempt and secure Philadelphia’s first postseason series win since 2010.
Philadelphia rolled behind a stellar performance by starting pitcher Aaron Nola. In 6.2 scoreless innings, Nola recorded six strikeouts and one walk, while surrendering four hits.
The Phillies clinched the final Wild Card berth in the National League, and have just pulled off an upset over the Cardinals. Now, they look to play spoiler in the Division Series against the rival Braves.
As for the Cardinals, the storybook ending of Pujols and Molina did not end with a World Series title. Even so, the duo did provide numerous memories in their final season that their fanbase certainly will never forget.
