College football rankings: AP Top 25 Poll, Week 7: Dawgs back on top, Tide falls

The latest college football rankings have the Georgia Bulldogs back in the top spot of the AP Top 25 Poll.

Saturday’s exploits had a major impact in the latest college football rankings, as the Georgia Bulldogs and the Ohio State Buckeyes each moved up a spot in the AP Top 25 Poll, while the Alabama Crimson Tide dropped two spots all the way down to No. 3.

Although all three College Football Playoff contending teams are still undefeated, not all wins are viewed equally. Georgia blew out cross-division rival Auburn, while Ohio State had no issues beating divisional foe Michigan State. As for Alabama, the Crimson Tide were two yards away from being upset by the Texas A&M Aggies. Their ranking is reflected by almost getting upset at home…

College football rankings: AP Top 25 Poll, Week 7: Georgia reclaims top spot

Here is what Associated Press decided were the 25 best teams in college football for Week 7.

  1. Georgia Bulldogs
  2. Ohio State Buckeyes
  3. Alabama Crimson Tide
  4. Clemson Tigers
  5. Michigan Wolverines
  6. Tennessee Volunteers
  7. USC Trojans
  8. Oklahoma State Cowboys
  9. Ole Miss Rebels
  10. Penn State Nittany Lions
  11. UCLA Bruins
  12. Oregon Ducks
  13. TCU Horned Frogs
  14. Wake Forest Demon Deacons
  15. North Carolina State Wolfpack
  16. Mississippi State Bulldogs
  17. Kansas State Wildcats
  18. Syracuse Orange
  19. Kansas Jayhawks
  20. Utah Utes
  21. Cincinnati Bearcats
  22. Texas Longhorns
  23. Kentucky Wildcats
  24. Illinois Fighting Illini
  25. James Madison Dukes

The top five are Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson and Michigan. Tennessee, USC, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Penn State round out the top 10. No. 11 through No. 15 are UCLA, Oregon, TCU, Wake Forest and NC State. No. 16 through No. 20 are Mississippi State, Kansas State, Syracuse, Kansas and Utah. Cincinnati, Texas, Kentucky, Illinois and James Madison round it all out.

The big takeaway in all this is Georgia has the best win of any team in the country. The Dawgs’ complete evisceration of Oregon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium over Labor Day Weekend is looking better by the week. Clearly, the Associated Press feels the same, as Ohio State and Alabama do not have a win of that caliber up to this point. That all could change here in a matter of weeks…

Ultimately, we are going to see a top-10 team lose this weekend with No. 6 Tennessee hosting No. 3 Alabama in the most important rendition of the Third Saturday in October in years. The winner of that game may have what it takes to potentially overtake Georgia and Ohio State in the AP’s pecking order. For now, we have a massive college football game on tap for next Saturday.

Enjoy being No. 1 again, Georgia fans, as your schedule will be getting tougher by the week now.
