Aroldis Chapman has pitched his final game with the New York Yankees after being left off their ALDS roster vs. the Cleveland Guardians.

It’s official. Aroldis Chapman will no longer play baseball for the New York Yankees going forward.

Champan declined to attend a mandatory team workout in New York because he was not guaranteed a spot on the Yankees’ postseason roster. The seven-time All-Star opted to stay home in Miami than make the trip to The Bronx. The Yankees’ brass told him to keep his talents in South Beach. With this being a contract year for him, his Yankees career has officially come to an end.

The No. 2-seeded Yankees will host the No. 3-seeded AL Central champion Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night to commence their best-of-five ALDS series.

Chapman has spent parts of seven seasons with the Yankees. He will be entering free agency at 35 years old in March, obviously looking for a new place to play.

Aroldis Chapman’s New York Yankees career has officially come to an end

While one could easily argue that the Yankees pose the biggest threat to the Houston Astros in the postseason, bullpen has been an issue for them. To make matters worse, this was Chapman’s worst season as a professional. He had a career-worst 4.46 ERA and a frightening 1.431 WHIP. Chapman was 4-4 with only nine saves over the course of 36.1 innings and 43 total appearances.

Not only was this a critical year for Chapman, but one for skipper Aaron Boone and to some degree general manager Brian Cashman. It has been well over a decade now since the Yankees have been to a World Series. Although they play in the league as the Astros, Houston has not won a World Series since 2017. The National League has also been considerably tougher to navigate as well…

Ultimately, the Yankees’ relationship with Chapman soured a long time ago. He might be able to play at a high level in the latter part of his 30s, but he will have to do it for somebody else now. There was a time where Chapman was borderline unhittable. Now, he cannot even be guaranteed a postseason roster spot. This was his worst season of his career. He had to know the truth here.

For now, the Yankees must find a way to win three games first before those pesky Guardians do.
