1. Jacob deGrom rumors: Padres could sign the superstar away from the Mets.

Wouldn’t this be something? Not only might the San Diego Padres be responsible for eliminating the New York Mets from the 2022 postseason, but could AJ Preller pull another rabbit out of his hat and sign Jacob deGrom in free agency?

Don’t put it past the Padres’ GM. San Diego has shown recently that they aspire to be taken seriously. After missing out on the playoffs in 2021, San Diego reloaded its roster and added superstar outfielder Juan Soto at the trade deadline.

The Padres rotation is sure to take a hit next season. Mike Clevinger and Sean Manaea will be free agents. San Diego may also look to move on from Blake Snell during the offseason. Regardless, both he and Yu Darvish will be free agents after next season.

The Padres have traded away talented young starters like Cal Quantril and MacKenzie Gore in recent years, meaning free agency might be the most likely way for Preller to restock the starting rotation.

While there are sure to be others, the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and San Diego Padres will be three of their biggest threats to signing Jacob deGrom away from the New York Mets this offseason.
