Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has rapidly become a star, so much so that the Longhorns signal-caller is getting Tom Brady-like calls against Iowa State.

It didn’t take long for the mullet to live up to the hype. After not playing at Ohio State last season, Quinn Ewers transferred to the Texas Longhorns with a ton of fanfare around the once-heralded recruit. But the question was if the raw talent he possessed would translate on the field.

In his return from injury in the Red River Showdown last week in which he eviscerated Oklahoma, Ewers proved that he was the goods. And that wasn’t the first time either as he had Alabama on the ropes in the first quarter before he exited that game with an injury.

Ewers has already become a superstar in college football, but it now looks like the Longhorns quarterback is also getting superstar calls, ones that Tom Brady can relate to and fans can remain infuriated with.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers gets Tom Brady-like roughing the passer call vs Iowa State

Trailing 7-0 to Iowa State in the first half on Saturday, Ewers dropped back to pass and faced some obvious pressure. He got rid of the ball and then took a hit, one that ultimately looked pretty innocuous.

But the officials deemed that the defender “drove the quarterback into the ground” and ruled it a roughing the passer call. You be the judge if that was a hit worthy of the 15-yard penalty.

To me, that looks like a normal football play that was not a late hit, was not driving Ewers into the ground, and was not remotely worth the penalty.

That, of course, drew comparisons to the Atlanta Falcons’ bogus roughing the passer penalty against Tom Brady in Week 5 of the NFL season when he was barely hit and still drew the flag. The hit on Ewers was less egregious in terms of the penalty, but the calls are in the same ballpark with how wrong they both were.
