Tennessee radio call of game winning FG vs Alabama will have fans amped up
The game-winning kick of Tennessee against Alabama was wild enough, but the radio call on the Volunteer network takes the cake.
It’d been 15 years since Tennessee had felt the kiss of victory on the Third Saturday in October against Alabama. But streaks are made to end, and the Knoxville faithful are celebrating that fact on Saturday night after the Vols’ electric upset win.
Chase McGrath’s 40-yard field goal with two seconds left on the clock gave the Volunteers a stunning victory over the favored Crimson Tide. As you can imagine, fans were excited, as was the Volunteers radio call.
Okay, it’s not as crazy as we thought, but let’s be honest, it has to be a sigh of relief for Tennessee’s announcers to finally call a Volunteer victory over Alabama, especially when few believed it could happen.
Tennessee football radio call of game-winning field goal vs Alabama is perfect
Here’s what’s interesting. How does Virginia Tech look after letting Hendon Hooker head off to Tennessee and do his thing? Hooker threw for five touchdowns, all of them going to Jalin Hyatt. There’s no doubt Alabama will find a way to bounce back from this, and there’s no question they have supporters in national commentators (Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe) who will look for any chance to excuse this loss. But can we give some love to the Volunteers and their resilience?
It looked like the game would slip away when Alabama defender Dallas Turner recovered a fumble and scored in the middle of the fourth quarter. Still, Tennessee had enough and stormed back to tie the game before taking a final drive in for a victory over a decade-plus in the making.
What a moment for Tennessee, their fans, and radio caller Bob Kesling. They earned this victory after what they had endured. Now, they are unbeaten and moving forward, with their most significant victory in the last few years in their pockets.
