2. How Malcolm Brogdon will diversify the Celtics offense

The Celtics’ decision to trade for Brogdon this offseason will go a long way toward determining just how dangerous they can be as a team. The crafty veteran’s ability to diversify their scoring off the bench could make them impossible to handle during the regular season.

Brogdon will see time finishing games with the starting group if all goes according to plan, but he will also be counted on to lead the second unit on most nights. That’s where he can thrive with the ball in his hands.

Boston isn’t typically a high-volume pick-and-roll team but that could change when Brogdon is on the floor. He excels in using his change-of-pace dribbling to gain advantages over quality defenders. Add in his ability to be a 3-point marksman on the weak side and it’s easy to envision him gelling well with Tatum and Brown.

The Brogdon deal might have flown under the radar this summer, but if he stays healthy he will emerge as a major factor for the Celtics down the stretch. He’s just the sort of role player who can find a way of swinging a tense playoff series in the favor of his team.
