Michigan State just took another L, this time on its bye week, in an attempt to troll Michigan.

The Michigan State Spartans’ social media team exhibited massive little brother energy in its failed attempt to troll the big brother Michigan Wolverines ahead of their rivalry game in two weekends.

Although the game between the Spartans and Wolverines will not be until Week 9 with both teams on byes, Michigan State cannot afford to take many more L’s in Big Ten play. While Mel Tucker’s team got an overtime win over his alma mater Wisconsin last week to get to 3-4, Sparty was riding a disastrous four-game skid prior to beating the Badgers over homecoming weekend.

Feeling a bit too cocky after beating those no-good, stinking Badgers, Michigan State football tweeted out a graphic of the Michigan M upside-down in the lead-up to their next game. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what an upside-down M looks like. That would be a W! This would be the equivalent of the Detroit Lions rocking an L on a hat for Lions. Oh wait, they did that!

As expected, this tweet was deleted by Michigan State football, but thank you for the screenshots!

Michigan State social media team caused the Spartans to take yet another loss

While bowl eligibility is still possible for now, Sparty is down bad in what has been a massively disappointing season for Michigan State. The Spartans won 10 regular-season games a year ago and defeated ACC champion Pitt in the Peach Bowl. Pat Narduzzi hated every second of that loss. Flash forward to now, Michigan State is 3-4 (1-3) and faces three ranked teams going forward

Not to say it is going to take a special teams catastrophe to beat Michigan in The Big House, but the Wolverines look dominant. They won the Big Ten a year ago and could repeat this season if they beat Ohio State in The Horseshoe. After the Michigan game, the Spartans will have to face Bret Bielema’s surging Illinois Fighting Illini in Champaign. This team might win the Big Ten West.

While Michigan State can technically afford to lose those two games, the Spartans would need to win out to go bowling at 6-6. That would require home wins over Rutgers and Indiana, as well as beating rival Penn State in Happy Valley over Thanksgiving Weekend. Although it remains to be seen if the Nittany Lions will still be ranked by that point of the season, Michigan State won’t be.

Ultimately, the Spartans need to find a way to regain all of that momentum lost from last season. I mean, Michigan State is paying Tucker a fortune to help make the Spartans the new Oregon Ducks of the Big Ten. The boosters are all aligned, as Michigan State has the recruiting resources and the financial capital to pull this off. However, Tuck Coming doesn’t hit like it used to. That must change.

If there is any consolation prize to this, the Spartans have beaten the Wolverines twice in a row…
