Georgia football is biggest winner of Oregon steamrolling UCLA
Georgia football’s 46-point Week 1 victory over Oregon looks better and better each week, especially with the Ducks destroying No. 9 UCLA.
Georgia may have been on their bye week but they were still winners in Week 8. That’s because Oregon is making their season-opening victory more valuable by the week.
The Bulldogs slaughtered the Ducks, 49-3, in Week 1. At the time, it was surely an impressive win but there were also questions about whether Oregon was simply overrated. The Ducks dropped from No. 11 to unranked after the loss.
Since then, Oregon has proven that they weren’t overrated. Georgia is just that good.
Georgia football can argue they have the best win in CFB thanks to Oregon
Oregon just met No. 9 UCLA, one of the hottest teams in college football, and stopped Dorian Thompson-Robinson and the Bruins in their tracks. While the Ducks scored touchdowns, they forced UCLA into field goals. Bo Nix reminded the college football world why he was continually named a dark horse Heisman candidate.
It was an impressive win for Oregon. It was also a win for Georgia.
The next AP poll will have Oregon hovering around the Top 5. So far this year, Tennessee has the best win in college football against Alabama. In terms of rankings, the Ducks have made the case that Georgia actually owns the top victory of the season so far, especially given the winning margin.
The Bulldogs will have plenty of opportunities in the final month of the regular season to solidify or lose their No. 1 ranking. They’ll face Tennessee in two weeks. That matchup matters more than any opponent comparison.
Still, resumé will play a huge role in the College Football Playoff ranking and Georgia’s resumé is strengthened by Oregon’s success.
So Dan Lanning’s connections aren’t the only reason for Georgia fans to keep an eye on the Ducks.
