After New York Yankees outfielder Harrison Bader made an error, pitcher Gerrit Cole offered to put the team on his back. That…didn’t go as planned.

Harrison Bader is one of the better defensive outfielders in all of baseball. He won a gold glove last year with the St. Louis Cardinals for a reason.

Yet, during Game 3 against the Houston Astros, the now-Yankees outfielder dropped a fly ball in a strange occurrence. Bader and Aaron Judge converged on the same fly ball, and it didn’t end well.

In the aftermath of Bader’s error, Gerrit Cole motioned to him that he’d make up for the missed opportunity. Sadly, it didn’t end that well for New York.

Chas McCormick of the Houston Astros took Cole deep, putting his team up 2-0 in a vital Game 3 for the Yankees.

Yankees: Gerrit Cole leaves Harrison Bader hanging in worst way

It was impossible for Cole to predict what would happen next, of course. Cole was coming off a superb Game 4 performance against the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS, where he tossed seven innings of nearly-flawless baseball.

New York acquired

Bader at the trade deadline

from the Cardinals for Jordan Montgomery. It was a fair trade for both sides, with Montgomery providing key innings for the Cards down the stretch, and Bader coming up huge in the postseason to the tune of three home runs. Sadly, this Game 3 error could come back to cost the team.

As for Cole, his postseason ERA remains below 3.00. A bad pitch to McCormick was put into the short porch seats, which is ironic given how much Aaron Boone and Luis Severino complained about the open roof at Minute Maid Park this week.

Houston appears to be the better team in this scenario, and if that’s the case, it’ll be another long summer in the Bronx.

Next. Astros, Chas McCormick make Yankees open roof comment look dumb. dark
