Notre Dame football fan would rather keep the faith than see the Irish win games this season.

It has been an especially challenging year for Notre Dame football fans everywhere this season.

The Golden Domers are 3-3 on the season and need to win three of their final six games to achieve bowl eligibility in Marcus Freeman’s first full year on the job. With dates at Syracuse, home vs. Clemson and at USC, the Fighting Irish pretty much have to win their three other games to get to 6-6. Next up would be the 4-3 UNLV Rebels out of the Mountain West on Saturday afternoon.

How bad is it for the Irish? One fan would rather see the coaching staff fully embrace the ideals of Catholicism than win any more games. Having your faith is important, but so is also having a job…

I say a little prayer for you, Notre Dame football fans amid this disastrous season

Even if you are a casual sidewalk alum of Notre Dame, how the Irish have gotten 3-3 is maddening to say the very least. Yes, a road loss to Ohio State in The Horseshoe was not out of the realm of possibility. However, their two other defeats were at home to Marshall and Stanford, two teams that have pretty much no clue how to beat FBS programs otherwise. How do you lose to them???

On the other side of the coin, Notre Dame has quality wins at home over Cal, at ACC Coastal favorite North Carolina and vs. fellow national independent power BYU in Las Vegas. It just shows how consistently inconsistent the Irish football program has been under Freeman up to this point. With UNLV not being its usual dog water self, the Rebels can come into South Bend to play spoiler.

Ultimately, we grossly overestimated the transition between Brian Kelly Notre Dame to Marcus Freeman Notre Dame. Freeman may be able to recruit and keep this thing afloat, but keep in mind how tumultuous the Irish football program was under the regimes between Lou Holtz and Brian Kelly. If Brady Quinn played for a coach of their ilk, maybe he could have won the Heisman Trophy?

Either way, we are livin’ on a prayer and halfway there when it comes to this Notre Dame season.
