Yankees fans welcomed Texas senator Ted Cruz to New York with some NSFW gestures during Game 4 of the ALCS against the Astros.

Crowds in New York aren’t known for being particularly friendly toward opposing fans.

When one of those fans is a controversial political figure rooting for the opposing team, you can bet they’re going to get an earful.

That’s what happened to Texas senator Ted Cruz, who turned up to Game 4 of the ALCS in New York and got a NSFW serenade from Yankees fans.

Fans will either agree or disagree with Cruz’s politics. But there was no way Yankees fans were going to give him a warm welcome wearing Houston colors, regardless of party or creed.

The Astros and Yankees were locked in a tight contest with lead changes in the third, sixth and seventh innings. It was can’t-miss baseball with New York on the brink of elimination and Houston on the verge of the trip to the World Series.

It was also late because of yet another rain delay but fans for both sides had reason to stick around..

Realistically, MLB fans are going to see more of Cruz with Houston likely going to the World Series to face the Phillies. They controlled the first three games of the series, besting New York, 4-2, 3-2 and 5-0. Sunday night’s game offered them an opportunity to pull of a sweep.

For Yankees fans it’s an all-too-familiar feeling watching their team fall to the Astros in the playoffs. They have never beaten Houston in a postseason series. It would take a miracle to start now. But that’s why you play the games.
