Chicago Bears mock draft after Smith, Quinn, and Claypool trades
Chicago Bears mock draft, round 1: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
If anyone didn’t know by now, the Chicago Bears have one of the weakest offensive lines in the country. As such, reinforcements are needed. As of right now, only Teven Jenkins looks to be a mainstay, and rookie Braxton Jones is raw but has enough athletic upside to warrant staying on the roster and in the starting lineup. The rest of the group is up for debate, and that’s where Broderick Jones comes into play.
At 6-4 and 310 pounds, Jones has the requisite size and weight to play the left tackle position. Moreover, this allows the Bears to make a different move along their offensive line by allowing current left tackle Braxton Jones to shift inside to the guard position, where he can be a more dominant presence, and leave the rookie on the outside to handle a more comfortable situation.
The questions surrounding Jones would be his pass protection and whether he has improved in that department. This season shows he has, but the NFL is a different ballgame. Still, his violent streak should be enough to convince general manager Ryan Poles that he is worthy of a first-round selection.
