Chicago Bears mock draft round 3: Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh

Wait, it’s all about offense, right? Not so fast. You need a great offense to win, but the front line of your defense also has to be solid.

In case anyone forgot, the Bears’ defensive line has no talent or explosiveness. That needs to change. There’s a good chance the Bears attack that area in free agency, but it doesn’t hurt to draft a talented player at the position.

That’s where Calijah Kancey comes into play. He may seem undersized at 6-0 and 280 lbs, but he’s almost as tall as another Pittsburgh defensive tackle before he came into the league and started dominating. We know who that guy is, but let’s be clear, Kancey is not Aaron Donald in any way, shape, or form.

That said, like Donald, Kancey has a lot of explosiveness in his lower body. Additionally, Kancey is not afraid to go at bigger blockers and use his technique and strength to win the battle. That said, he will have to fine-tune his motor just a bit and develop a few other moves to go along with his speed and bull rush. If that improves, the Bears will have a force in the middle of their defensive line for years to come.
