Houston sports icon Mattress Mack got in a verbal altercation with Phillies fans after Game 3 of the World Series.

Houston lost Game 3 thanks to five home runs given up by Lance McCullers to the Philadelphia Phillies offense. Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Kyle Schwarber and more went deep, hurting Houston’s chances. If they are to win the Fall Classic, it’ll have to come back in Houston, and the Astros must end the Phillies unbeaten streak at Citizens Bank Park.

After the game, Phillies fans approached ‘Mattress Mack’ and criticized the Astros performance. It’s important to note that Mack was not physically threatened, but did get in a verbal altercation with some fans in Philadelphia.

Mattress Mack gets in verbal altercation about the Astros

Mattress Mack’s representatives discussed the incident after the game:

"“A Phillies fan was heckling Mack the whole game and followed him out to the concourse at the end of the game. The fan continued to shout negative comments about the Astros including they are a bunch of cheaters…Jose Altuve will never make the Hall of Fame… we should take off their jerseys to see if they are wearing buzzers. Mack had enough of the negative comments and responded to the heckler.”"

Mack did not discuss the incident on his social media Wednesday night, but did quote a bible verse that may hint at such things.

By all accounts, it was when said fans suggested Jose Altuve won’t be a Hall of Famer that Mattress Mack lost his wits. Surely, he’s used to his favorite team being called cheaters, but Altuve?

By all accounts, Altuve himself did not participate in the cheating scheme himself. But not a Hall of Famer? That’s a bit much, and Philly fans knew how to get under Mattress Mack’s skin.

Altuve’s Cooperstown debate is a few years down the road, but it’s already brewing in Houston. You can be they’re defensive.
