Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke threw a huge touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel, with an assist from an official who ran into a Minnesota Vikings defender.

The Washington Commanders have been on a roll as of late, winning their past three games to bring them back to .500 and two games behind the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants for second-place in the NFC East. They had the chance to make it four in a row with a victory over the 6-1 Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.

At the start of the third quarter, Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke threw a pass deep downfield intended for wide receiver Curtis Samuel. In an odd sequence of events, Samuel was surrounded by three Vikings defenders. One of those defenders, safety Camryn Bynum, was knocked down by an on-field official. That allowed for an opening for Samuel, who caught the pass and rolled into the end zone for a touchdown.

If the Commanders do win this game, Heinicke should purchase some Jordan’s for that official in addition to a pair for himself. A purple and yellow colorway sound like a tremendous pair of sneakers. Just saying.

Prior to this touchdown, Washington was trailing 7-3. Minnesota struck first on the day on a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson in the first quarter. Washington responded just before halftime with a 44-yard field goal by Joey Slye.
