Frank Reich’s long-term successor as the Indianapolis Colts head coach could come from college football.
With the Indianapolis Colts deciding to move on from Frank Reich after a disastrous 3-5-1 start, there is a chance the next full-time head coach of the franchise hails from the college ranks.
While former Baylor and Temple head coach Matt Rhule failed miserably with the Carolina Panthers, how many great candidates are there to be had at the NFL level right now? The Dallas Cowboys have two strong coordinators in Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn, but even then some teams may have reservations about the former Atlanta Falcons coach or the Boise State quarterback.
But when it comes to the college ranks, there are several intriguing offensive minds to consider.

Former Florida head coach Dan Mullen might be best suited for the NFL game
There is a reason why Dan Mullen is not a college football coach right now. The former Florida head coach had tremendous success previously at Mississippi State, but struggled in the recruiting department considerably once he switched SEC divisions. The good news for Mullen is that besides being good on television, he has shown he can scheme up his players with his offense.
Quarterbacks tend to thrive under him. He coached Alex Smith and Tim Tebow as a coordinator at Utah and Florida, respectively. At Mississippi State, he developed Dak Prescott into a franchise quarterback. Before it hit the fan at Florida as a head coach, Mullen transformed Kyle Trask into a Heisman Trophy finalist. There is a reason why he had been tied to the Dallas Cowboys job before.
Mullen will get back into coaching soon, maybe as an NFL offensive coordinator or a head coach?
