The Cowboys have been suggested as a potential destination for free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. but Mike McCarthy dropped a hint it could actually happen.

Despite having to weather the Dak Prescott injury after the Week 1 loss, the Dallas Cowboys are sitting in a good spot at the bye week. They are in second place in the NFC East behind the undefeated Eagles but have one of the best defenses in the league along with having their quarterback back under center.

But this is a team that is still looking to improve. They made a minor but impactful trade ahead of the deadline for Jonathan Hankins to beef up the interior of the defensive line. That, however, was hardly the “Deion Sanders type” move that owner Jerry Jones teased.

As it turns out, that might be because the move he was speaking of doesn’t pertain to a trade but, rather, to signing free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Between Jones’ comments, the team’s lack of moves at the trade deadline, a need for more wide receiver depth behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, and the apparent mutual interest between Beckham and the Cowboys, it would all add up. And head coach Mike McCarthy may have just dropped another hint about the possible OBJ signing.

Cowboys: Mike McCarthy drops another hint at Odell Beckham Jr. connection

Speaking with the media on Monday, McCarthy was asked about Beckham and was effusive with his praise, saying that he’s “always been a big fan” and that has heard nothing but good things about the wide receiver.

Yes, he and the Cowboys should be happy with the current receiving corps, especially with Noah Brown stepping up his production this season. But a three-headed monster of pass-catchers of Lamb, OBJ and Gallup to go with the Ezekiel Elliott-Tony Pollard duo and Prescott would make for a lethal combination offensively.

Of course, nothing about this is concrete, but there is starting to be a trail of breadcrumbs when it comes to Odell Beckham Jr. and Dallas. He’s mentioned them by name, the Cowboys appear to be interested and like him, and Jerry Jones has promised a massive move that could propel the team to a Super Bowl.

If that’s not writing getting put on the wall, I’m not sure what is.
