5 best MLB free agency destinations for Jacob deGrom
By Scott Rogust
The Texas Rangers showed last year that they are all-in on making it to the postseason. They signed not one, but two of the top shortstops in free agency in Corey Seager and Marcus Semien. Unfortunately for the Rangers, the team didn’t make any improvements, resulting in the team firing manager Chris Woodward midseason.
Texas got three-time World Series champion Bruce Bochy to come out of retirement to be their new manager. This is a team that is hoping to move into contention in the AL. They do need to make a big addition to the starting rotation. While they do have top pitching prospect Jack Leiter potentially getting called up next season, adding deGrom should be the move for the Rangers.
The Rangers are going to get a starting pitcher, one way or another.
The best possible destination for deGrom is a return to the Mets. Of course, that will all be dependent on how much owner Steve Cohen will be willing to offer. Not just the money, but also the years on the contract.
Last winter, the Mets made a plethora of moves last winter, such as signing pitcher Max Scherzer and outfielder Starling Marte. The team made it to the postseason for the first time since 2016 but were eliminated by the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card round.
The Mets are going to be spending money this offseason to bring them closer to a World Series title for the first time since 1986. Bringing back deGrom would help in that goal, but does the team have larger plans this offseason that could hypothetically take them out of the running for their longtime ace?
