For college football fans looking for a high-scoring game in Week 11, look no further than the ACC clash between the UNC Tar Heels and Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
The college football regular season reaches its end at the end of the month before the pivot to the conference championship games. College fans are probably looking at the schedules and planning out which games are must-watch.
For those who are looking for a high-scoring and thrilling game, the game that checks those boxes will not come between two SEC programs or in a Big Ten matchup. Look no further than the ACC, when the UNC Tar Heels take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a battle between two of the top offenses in the entire country.
UNC vs. Wake Forest has the makings of ACC Game of the Year
When it comes to points, both the Tar Heels and Demon Deacons know how to rack them up. North Carolina currently ranks ninth in the nation in terms of average points scored per game with 40.6. Wake Forest ranks 19th in the nation with 36.9, per NCAA.com (including all stats below).
The Tar Heels are led by freshman quarterback Drake Maye, who has become a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate since taking over for Sam Howell after departing for the NFL,
Through the first nine games of the season, Maye accumulated the fifth-most passing yards with 2,964 yards and the most-passing touchdowns of any quarterback in the country with 31. Not to mention, he is just as dangerous running the ball, picking up 513 yards and four touchdowns on 114 carries.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest junior quarterback is having a good season as well. He has thrown for 2,423 yards (22nd-most in the nation) and 24 touchdowns (ninth-most) in eight games. His best showing of the season was undoubtedly in the team’s 51-45 double overtime loss to the Clemson Tigers, where he completed 20-of-29 pass attempts for 337 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers came against one of the top defenses in the country.
Hartman could be in for a huge day, as North Carolina’s defense has surrendered an average of 457.7 yards of offense per game (10th-most in the nation) and 31.0 points per game (26th-most).
This has all the makings of one of the best offensive games of the season. If we have sold you on watching it, be sure to tune in to ESPN2 on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Oh, and be sure to take the over.
