The Notre Dame offense has been maligned all season long but that didn’t stop receiver Braden Lenzy from hauling in the Catch of the Year.

Throughout the rollercoaster season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Marcus Freeman’s first season as the head coach in South Bend, perhaps nothing has been under fire more than the team’s offense.

No matter who has started at quarterback, the Fighting Irish offense has left a lot to be desired more often than not. That has been especially true in regards to the passing attack, which would be described favorably as inconsistent.

So it only figures that this aerial offense for Notre Dame would give us perhaps the best catch that we’ll see all year in college football on Saturday in the team’s matchup against Navy.

Notre Dame WR Braden Lenzy hauls in insane Catch of the Year candidate

In the first half, Drew Pyne just heaved a throw to the front corner of the end zone in the direction of senior wide receiver Braden Lenzy, who was facing pretty tight coverage. That didn’t faze Lenzy. Instead, he turned and reached out behind the defender’s back to haul in a truly insane touchdown catch.

It might be a lesser version, but it’s hard not to think of the ridiculous Julio Jones touchdown catch of yesteryear as he caught the ball behind the defender’s back and then rolled through the end zone somehow maintaining possession.

Still, seeing this type of play from Lenzy and an offense that has been so painfully lackluster throughout much of the season is the epitome of why college football is the best. It makes no sense for a unit of this mediocre-at-best caliber to make this type of play.

But Lenzy made it happen, and we’re all blessed to witness such an incredible play.
