The first edition of the 2022-23 FanSided college basketball rankings sees the Houston Cougars on top as they start the season on a dominant note.

The college basketball regular season is underway and there will be a lot of action between now and Selection Sunday. With thousands of games set to be played, it will take some hard work to sort out which teams will be the biggest threats to cut down the nets in Houston in April.

Throughout the regular season, FanSided will post college basketball rankings of the Top 10 teams entering the week as well as five others who are on the verge of breaking through. The list was an interesting one this week since there were a ton of buy games but we’ll begin the 2022-23 college basketball rankings with a look at the five teams to just miss the cut.

Week 2 College Basketball Rankings – The Honorable Mentions

Note: All rankings referenced are from the Week 1 AP Top 25 Poll.

Indiana, Texas, Arizona, San Diego State, Alabama

These five teams just missed the cut, with Indiana coming the closest to cracking the Top 10 after a pair of dominant wins. The issue is that no one in the Top 10 really lost, making it hard to justify dropping someone out to support the Hoosiers’ bid for a Top 10 spot.

The big riser this week was San Diego State, which posted a quality non-conference win over BYU in a week where most of the Top 25 played cupcakes at home. Winning a game like that helps put the Aztecs on the radar as a potential sleeper over the course of the season.
