Oregon wide receiver Kris Hutson openly admitted to faking an injury against Washington while also revealing Bo Nix’s injury status.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning needs to have a long chat with wide receiver Kris Hutson about how to talk to the media. It’s pretty clear he has no clue.

The sophomore jaw-droppingly spilled the beans on two subjects on Wednesday. First, he admitted that his injury on the final drive against Washington was “part of the game plan.” Then he apparently gave away the fact that Bo Nix will miss the Utah game.

We’ll start with the faked injury because wow.

Kris Hutson admitted to faking an injury at end of Oregon loss to Washington

“It was just part of the game plan,” Hutson said after being asked to give an explanation for his conveniently timed injury. “It wasn’t nothing too special. But I’m alright though.”

Washington fans and others had immediately drawn attention to the moment when Hutson stayed down injured after catching a pass for a first down with six seconds remaining. Oregon didn’t have any timeouts left. The injury stoppage allowed them to take the time to set up a play instead of having to clock it.

Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer addressed the moment after the game without trying to cross a line.

“It’s just one of those things, what can you do?” DeBoer said. “The officials have to acknowledge, and I don’t want to be insensitive and if there’s an injury, that’s part of the game. Those things happen. I know those things are always looked at from a league level and it’s part of college football that we get in our discussions in the offseason. The officials have to acknowledge and honor that that it’s an injury and I guess as a coach that’s the way I have to too. The timing of it is hard because you know the clock would’ve started and it is what it is. Fortunately, we’re on the right end of it here. You hope he’s OK.”

It’ll be interesting if he has anything more to say now.

In the end, Washington won so no injustice was done. But if Oregon had scored? That would be another discussion.

Bo Nix injury update: Is the Ducks QB out vs. Utah?

Lanning would have had ample reason to be frustrated with Hutson for revealing that tidbit, but the wide receiver also missed the memo on keeping team injury news close to the chest.

There is no way the head coach wanted Utah to know that Nix probably isn’t playing on Saturday.

“Obviously Bo is down so it’s next man up,” Hutson said.

This one is more open to interpretation. There is a universe where Hutson was speaking in hypotheticals and just missed the all-important “if” necessary to make that statement more ambiguous. He didn’t. So, of course the speculation that Nix is definitely out has begun.
